Dead Space Score Revealed

No...not THAT "score"...I'm talking about the music;)

We've learned through Music4Games.net that the "intensely atmospheric" orchestra score for EA's upcoming sci-fi survival horror title Dead Space was composed and conducted by award-winning composer Jason Graves. The score, which offers over three hours of music and was co-produced by Graves and Rod Abernethy, was recorded individually by sections during two different sessions with multiple dynamic levels and variations to be implemented as adaptive layers of music in the game. In other words, a lot of work went into assuring an overall tense mood designed to scare the living crap out of you.

The official soundtrack for Dead Space will be made available on the EA Trax website to coincide with the release of the game on October 14, 2008. Dork points awarded for listening to this in you car.

Dead Space Devs Branching Out

The EA Redwood Shores dev team behind the highly-anticipated sci-fi third person action adventure Dead Space have plenty to be happy about these days. Not only is their game (which ships later this month) generating a ton of buzz, but it's been announced that the team will soon get its own studio name and be assigned to work on future projects OTHER than Dead Space (and Dead Space 2, which is most likely ALREADY in the works).

EA Redwood Shores studio head Glenn Schofield stated that the team's name change is part of the larger plan to brand them at THE studio for "creativity, originality, and high-quality 3rd person action/adventure titles."

No details about the new name or future projects have surfaced as of yet, but I'm sure we'll be hearing a bunch from these guys soon.

Looking for a great way to blow $150 bones? Well, EA is glad to take your money for a rare limited edition of the upcoming sci-fi thriller Dead Space that is, quite honestly, rare. In addition to the game, fanatical consumers will get the Dead Space Downfall animated movie on DVD, another DVD with "bonus content", a 97-page art book put together by the devs themselves, an exclusive lithograph, and a 160-page graphic novel all wrapped up in fancy, special "Ultra Limited Edition" packaging.

They're only making 1,000 of these bad boys, so if you're interested, you better start organizing your plan of attack RIGHT NOW!

Dead Space Shipping Early

This is rare...EA has announced that the sci-fi, horror, action/adventure game Dead Space will be shipping a week ahead of it's previous October 21st launch date and blast its way into retail on October 14, 2008.

Developed by EA Redwood Shores, Dead Space delivers, among other things, the phrase "strategic dismemberment" to the gaming masses...Here's a bit of background from the press release:

"When an immense mining ship, the USG Ishimura, comes into contact with a mysterious alien artifact in a remote star system, its communications with Earth are mysteriously cut off. Engineer Isaac Clarke is sent to repair the Ishimura’s communications array, but he arrives to find a living nightmare—the ship is a floating bloodbath, the crew unspeakably mutilated and infected by an ancient alien scourge. Clarke’s repair mission becomes one of survival as he fights not just to save himself, but to return the artifact to the planet … at any cost."

Turn out the lights and head to the game's official site to simultaneously learn more about it and scare the crap out of yourself:)

There Are No Survivors: New Dead Space Site is "Live"

For all you Axe-heads stoically awaiting the arrival of EA's Dead Space, their utterly disturbing marketing campaign continues. NoKnownSurvivors.com, a new game tie-in site, just went up giving visitors a taste of the back story and thoroughly creepy vibe of this new title. The site prominently features nine dismembered body parts floating in space, each of which represent a new piece of content that will be unveiled during the nine week run-up to the game's release. Registered users can also participate in a series of quiz challenges and compete for one of a hundred copies of Dead Space to be given away.

The first installment, Misplaced Affection: Injured, is up now and ties into the already established backstory. Check out the game's official site, for more info and a series of animated-comics detailing the woeful events leading up to Dead Space. Turn out the lights and watch them all in one sitting for maximum effect. Dead Space will scare the living crap out of people everywhere on October 21st for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
