Blue Bomber Blitzkrieg: Mega Man 9 sells 60,000 Units

VGChartz.com is reporting that Mega Man 9 is tearing up the Wii's virtual console channel, scoring a whopping 60,000 downloads in its first day of release. Capcom's Blue Bomber blasted his way into everyone's heart way back with the original title (and its five sequels) on the NES starting in 1987.

Though the Mega Man X spinoff series, and various modern adaptations of the franchise have been more or less successful, the buzz surrounding MM9 belied just how near and dear this property is to gamers everywhere. With day one sales outpacing some title's entire lifetime on the virtual console channel, Mega Man 9 is set to demonstrate that, when done right, retro games are still a market force to be reckoned with.

Mega Man 9 is available now for Nintendo Wii (Virtual Console) and will blast its way onto PSN this Thursday, Sept. 25th and Xbox 360 on October 1st.

A Dirty, Bug Planet: Savage Moon Gameplay Footage

For reasons that should be all too obvious at this point, we of the Axe like our enemies somewhere slightly south of sympathetic. We can't let pesky remorse get in the way of more important things, like slaughter. With that in mind we're totally amped to finally be seeing the first bit of gameplay footage from the forthcoming PS3 exclusive Savage Moon.

Officially announced on the Playstation Blog in late August, Savage Moon is an action-heavy tower defense game. And yes, whoever designed this one took some cues from Starship Troopers. So if frantic action, real-time-strategy, and exoskeletal-annihilation are the salt to your fries, then be prepared to dig in when Savage Moon debuts this fall on PSN.

Bonus Points: If the Moon Mother has anything to do with it, Savage Moon will have been directly inspired by that greatest of all productivity massacre: Desktop Tower Defense.

Operation: Fallen Star is a Go - New Warhawk Expansion Arrives August 28th

Morning Axe-heads! Who's ready to rain down some flaming-hot annihilation, chariots-of-the-gods style? Sony announced today the third Warhawk expansion, Operation: Fallen Star, will be ready for launch this Thursday. The cliff-notes on the latest booster-pack are: the new Tau Crater level and, of course, Jetpacks.

Game Director Dylan Jobe describes the Jetpack as a "massive game-changing addition", and the new Tau Crater level has been specifically designed to take advantage of it. In addition to the ten new layouts, there are 30 bonus layouts that add the new vehicle to Warhawk's original content. The Jetpack is also compatible with the "Hero" and "Collection" game modes introduced back in July.

Operation: Fallen Star will be available worldwide August 28th on the Playstation Store for $7.99. There will also be a Combo Pack bundling all three Warhawk expansions for $15.99. The day before, August 27th, the latest free update (v1.5) goes live enabling custom in-game music, trophies, new paint schemes & insignias, and more. Check out the Official Playstation Blog for more info.

Force Unleashed Demo Dated

Last night's episode of GameTrailers TV revealed that the highly anticipated downloadable demo for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will be made available on August 21 for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The demo
features a scenario where Darth Vader sends you to assassinate a Jedi and face off against rebel and imperial forces alike. In addition to general butt kicking and force usage, you'll be slicing AT-STs in half and slinging enemy troops into the air as the mysterious Secret Apprentice...What more can a man want?

This game is lookin' hot IMO.
