Variety is reporting that film producer Avi Arad has optioned the rights to Bioware's amazingly awesome (opinion, not fact) sci-fi RPG Mass Effect from Bioware's parent company EA. The game, which pushed the boundaries of narrative and cinematic presentation, is the first in a trilogy (or space opera if you will) with subsequent titles due out in the coming years.
Before you jump the gun and start lining up outside the local theatre for tickets to the Mass Effect flick, you should know that Arad has also optioned the popular MMO EverQuest which joins other gaming IP's such as The Suffering and City of Heroes in the category of "optioned, but nothing actually happening".
Hopefully, that won't be the case with our beloved Mass Effect (can you tell we like the game?!?!?!)
