Nintendo Announces DSi: Hits Japan Nov 1st



At Nintendo's press conference last night in Tokyo, president Satoru Iwata introduced the Nintendo DSi the latest refresh to the world's best selling game console. Sporting music playback, photo editing capability, and an SD card slot the DSi is staking claim in some new territory for big N. Here's the cliff notes:
  • Screens now slightly larger at 3.25 inches
  • Overall, unit is now 12% thinner
  • No GBA cartridge slot
  • Internal storage and an SD card slot
  • Two 640x480 cameras
  • Photos can be loaded from the SD card slot
  • Pics can be edited with touch screen, and synced with Wii photo channel
  • Music playing functionality
  • Downloadable games and software over WiFi through the "Nintendo DS Shop"
  • Purchases are made using Wii points, now called "Nintendo Points"
  • Until March 2010, players get 1000 points free with purchase of DSi
Gametrailers has video from the press conference showing of the DSi and some of it's upcoming software (all in Japanese). The Nintendo DSi will be available in Japan on Nov 1st for 18,900 yen, or just short of $180 USD.
