New Nintendo Points Are Console Locked

Morning Axe Heads, we're following up on Nintendo's recently announced DSi and the new points system that will accompany it. Siliconera reports that contrary to what was widely circulated, Nintendo points are not a replacement for Wii points but in fact a new top-level points tier.

Furthermore, Nintendo Points can only be used for one of the two consoles. Confused? Here's how it breaks down. A Nintendo Points card worth 1000 points can be redeemed for either 1000 Wii Points or 1000 DSi points, but not 500 points on each console.

The Nintendo DSi and its new points system arrives in Japan November 1st and in North America in the first quater of 2009.

Final Word:

In answer to your first question (why?), Siliconera explains that Nintendo has no account system to manage digital distribution or keep track of all these species of points running around. In answer to your second question (why don't they have an account managament system?), we'd reccomend smashing a brick against your face. It won't get you any answers but it will take your mind off the absurdity.
